How to use a GPS locator? -- Know basic GPS locator knowledge

01. GPS locator principle

The GPS receiver device installed on the vehicle calculates the current position of the vehicle based on the satellite information received. The communication controller extracts the required position, speed and time information from the signal output from the GPS receiver, combines it with the vehicle identity and other information to form a data packet, which is then sent to the monitoring centre via the mobile operator's GPRS network. The server of the monitoring centre receives the data sent by the vehicle-mounted machine and extracts the positioning information from it, which is displayed on the electronic map of the monitoring centre according to the vehicle number and group number of each vehicle, etc. The GPS positioning immobilizer is even more powerful, combining almost all the anti-theft functions and can be accurately positioned with satellites within a 5-metre range, i.e. in front of the eyes. Its sensors have the use of wireless sensing, which is difficult to destroy.

02. What GPS locators are used for?

The biggest help of GPS locators at this stage is: car anti-theft, children anti-loss, elderly monitoring, etc.

The biggest advantage of using a GPS locator for a private car is that the family can check the safety of the driving vehicle at any time in the form of whether it is speeding, or real-time location inquiries. In addition it can also achieve private car anti-theft and loss prevention, if the vehicle is stolen can also be retrieved through the GPS locator.

03. Do GPS locators work?

• Positioning

The car anti-theft system is a network type anti-theft device, which is an active monitoring anti-theft device. It mainly relies on locking the ignition or starting to achieve the purpose of anti-theft. Use the GPS satellite positioning system to provide 24-hour uninterrupted and high-precision monitoring services for the vehicle, and present the status of the car in real time.

• Alarm

Relying on the GSM communication network, combined with the intelligent linkage anti-theft alarm of mobile phones and cars, the alarm of this type of anti-theft device is not limited by distance and covers a wide network. When the vehicle is hit maliciously, triggered by vibration, and in the state of fortification, the door is opened illegally and the vehicle is started, the mobile phone will immediately receive a vibration alarm  message.

• lock power system

The power system of the car is locked, and the car is provided with secondary lock anti-theft protection. Even if the car key is in the hands of others, it cannot be driven away. If the GPS anti-theft device is illegally disassembled, it will immediately lock the power system of the vehicle, and the car thief will have no way to drive the car away.

• Track vehicle location

After the GPS anti-theft device is illegally disassembled, it will send an alarm message, and at the same time it can also track and locate the car in real time. Using the GPS positioning function, users can quickly and accurately find the stolen vehicles.

04. Installation method of car GPS tracker

• Find the wire

Check whether the required positioning terminal accessories and wiring tools are complete.

There are 3 wires that need to be connected in the simple GPS tracker , so first find out the wires in the car in bold as follows.  Red wire of GPS tracker - positive pole of car power supply.  Black wire of GPS tracker - negative pole of car power supply.  White wire of GPS tracker - car ACC/key cable

• Install SIM card

Many friends do not understand why a mobile phone card is installed in the GPS positioning system. In fact, the SIM card plays an important role in the GPS positioning system. Simply put, the GPS locator is responsible for collecting the longitude and latitude data of the terminal. The advanced GSM network transmits the positioning data to the designated background in the form of GPRS, and finally forms a positioning monitoring system.

Note: Please ensure that the SIM card is inserted into the GPS positioning terminal only when the GPS positioning terminal is not powered up, otherwise the card will be easily burned.

After the SIM is installed, please turn on the standby power switch (on the side), and make sure that the SIM is firm and will not loosen.

• Wiring

Once the SIM card is fitted, go back to step one. Install the various coloured wire sequences to be connected, making sure that the connectors are not loose or water ingress. The wiring process please use the standard car circuit wiring method to connect, do not perfunctory. If the wiring is not handled properly, it is easy to make the GPS locator power off and unable to work on the one hand, and there is also a certain safety risk of short circuit and fire.

The wire ends should be protected with heat shrink tubing to ensure that they do not easily come off and do not get water in. Then bundle them with waterproof electrical tape and tie them together with the original wiring.

• Terminal fixing

The GPS locator is small in size and easy to install covertly. The common fixed position is to remove the front baffle of the main driver/passenger driver，and it can also be installed in the interior space, under the seat, in the trunk and so on. On the one hand, it can ensure that the GPS antenna can receive satellite signals normally, and it can also ensure that the vehicle is not easy to get water and cause the terminal to burn out when the vehicle is washed.

GPS antennas (small black squares as shown below) is easily shielded by concrete and metal substances, while plastic, human body, cloth, etc. will not be affected. Therefore, when fixing, please make sure that there is no metal material above the signal receiving surface, and ensure that the receiving surface can face up to the sky. It is fixed flat by Velcro or plastic straps so that it will not fall off during long-term use.

When the GPS locator is fixed, there is no difference between the front and the back, and the terminal can be fixed tightly with Velcro and cable ties to ensure that it will not fall off and there will be no noise during long periods of vehicle bumps, hot and cold alternation, etc.

• Activation

After all the above steps are completed, restore the vehicle. Then give the license plate number, terminal ID, SIM card number and other information to the customer service staff to activate, so the vehicle can be located and managed on the computers and mobile phones. Since then, the GPS tracker has been installed.
